Hello, I was just wondering what IPs to use with ProtonVPN (if possible), as their NetShield is a bit lacking compared to Blokada. Proton does offer the option for custom DNS servers, however it only accepts IPv4 addresses as far as I can tell.
Thank you in advance
Hi there!
Thank you for reaching out! Using Blokada Cloud with ProtonVPN might work, but please be aware it may not function properly on all devices, especially iPhones, due to technical limitations. If you’d like to give it a shot, follow these steps to set it up:
- Visit app.blokada.org and log in with your account.
- Go to the hamburger menu → Blokada Cloud → Setup and follow the instructions provided there to configure your environment.
If your environment is missing or if you run into any issues, please share more details so we can assist further.
Alternatively, you might find Blokada Plus a convenient solution—it includes both a VPN and ad-blocking in one package, with everything pre-configured and ready to go. This ensures compatibility across devices.

I need an IPv4 address, and the setup page only has conf files. Proton has the ability to use a custom DNS server if given the IPv4 address, like cloudflare’s 1.1.1.1, but I cannot seem to find Blokada’s anywhere. Is it one of the addresses in the conf files maybe?
It’s not possible to use Blokada Cloud as a clear text DNS service, so unfortunately, you won’t find an IPv4 address like Cloudflare’s 1.1.1.1.
However, depending on your device, you might be able to override Proton’s DNS settings by following the configuration steps at app.blokada.org. For example, on Android, you can configure Private DNS in the system settings to point to Blokada Cloud, as outlined in the setup instructions.
Let us know what device you’re using, and we can provide more specific guidance if needed!
I’m using their Debian linux client
In this case I recommend using Blokada Plus for a seamless experience, you would download a configuration for WireGuard and everything will be set correctly out of the box.
If there’s any issue with our service that makes you prefer Proton, we’d love to hear your feedback!
