The way to use Blokada with windows has traditionally been with WireGuard, which requires a Blokada Plus subscription. But there is another way to use it, only requiring the Blokada Cloud plan.
How to set Blokada Cloud on Windows?
Open Control Panel.
Click on Network and Internet.
Click on Network and Sharing Center.
Click the Change adapter settings option in the left pane.
Right-click the active network interface and select the Properties option.
Select and check the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) option.
Click the Properties button.
Select the Use the following DNS server addresses option.
Use these settings:
Preferred DNS: 34.117.212.222
Secondary DNS: none or same as above
How to configure DoH on Windows?
First you need to go to app.blokada.org → Blokada Cloud → Setup → on the device selection select: Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Brave → Copy the hostname (DoH Template)
On your windows settings, you need to follow these steps:
Go to Networks & Internet
Click on Wi-Fi
Navigate to Hardware Properties
Look for DNS server assignment and click on Edit
Change your DNS over HTTPS settings to “on (Manual Template)”
If I have the option to set preferred DNS settings in my router, will this work there as well? If so, that might be better than setting it on each individual laptop in the house. Desktops too.
I’m on the 7-day free trial of Blokada Cloud and everything runs smoothly on my phone. Now I wanted to test run it on my Windows machine. On my Blokada Dashboard app.blokada.org however, there is no Setup instructions. In fact, it says “Blokada Cloud Not Available”. What am I missing?
It is not an error message per se.
Right when I log into my dashboard, I only get the option to use Libre or buy Plus. The Cloud option is with black background and Text “Cloud Not Available”
Settings mostly worked. Attempting to use the same DNS as the alternate with the same DoH template fails on Windows 11 for all my connections. Plaintext fallback is disabled.
Also, is IPv6 support going to ever make it to Blokada Cloud? Are these instructions usable for both IPv4 and IPv6 (since no IPv6 DNS is listed)? In searching through the forums, I see where even B5 is said to support IPv6, but there are at least a couple of instances where folks report it won’t work, so I am curious.
Rel info:
Windows 11 24H2 (Build 26100.1742) (yes, I know it is still pre-release, please don’t give me flak for that, I chose it and I know what I am doing)
Blokada Cloud active subscription (expires June 30, 2025)
Multiple NICs (Gigabit, 2.5, and 10 Gb wired, and WiFi 6)
Thanks for reaching out! From what I understand, it seems you might be encountering some challenges with the DNS configuration on Windows 11. Just to clarify, Blokada Cloud DNS currently supports IPv4 only, but this shouldn’t prevent it from resolving IPv6 addresses as needed, so both IPv4 and IPv6 content should still be accessible without issue.
Regarding the DNS setup you’re using on Windows 11, you mentioned issues with the DoH template. Could you share more details about the specific error or behavior you’re encountering? This will help us get a clearer picture of what might be going on.
