I’ve been having issues over the past couple weeks where Blokada 6 isn’t blocking ads consistently any longer. I made no changes to any settings and haven’t updated the OS since 16.1 came out in Oct. I do not use the Blokada VPN, but I have paid for the regular service.
It seems to be across all different blogs and websites, though I notice it most on recipe blogs which I frequent regularly.
Hi, could you provide some links to the sites you’re having this problem with? Also, visit our test site (Blokada Test) on your device and let me know what results you get.
Thanks for looking into this. I ran the test and got a 100%, however I also have been browsing and seeing ads on different sites/apps. I’m a new user so I can only attach 1 screenshot for my IMDB app, but I’m also seeing them on these 2 websites:
Thanks. I checked both sites you sent and the IMDB app, and I don’t see any ads there (the sites have blank spaces where the ads should be).
You may need to activate different or additional blocklists. Here are the ones I use daily:
OISD Small and Big,
Steven Black Unified
Goodbye ads Standard
AdAway
Blacklist Adservers
Leave only the ones I mentioned active, use your phone for a few hours (to make sure old ads aren’t left in the cache) and see if you notice any improvement.
I had all of the ones you recommended checked already, plus a few others (which I unchecked). I’ve used my phone all day and am still seeing them on the Nish Kitchen website (attached). I made sure to look at pages that I had not previously, hoping to avoid caching issues.
93% is a good result; I have the same result. This means that overall, Blokada on your phone works properly, except for some particularly resistant ads. In such cases, testing other or additional blocklists is the best option. You can also try manually marking specific entries (in the Privacy Pulse tab) as those to be blocked, but in practice, it’s difficult to pinpoint the specific entry that’s currently causing the ad to display.
I am still unclear on why these websites would have worked just fine a month or so ago but have since been showing ads. It doesn’t make sense when I didn’t change any of the settings. Could it be Chrome?
Honestly, I’m not sure why you see ads on sites I have no problem with. The final result can depend on several factors outside of Blokada’s direct control (DNS cache, browser cache, iOS version, regional CDN differences, or how a specific site serves ads at a given moment).
I know this isn’t a perfect answer, but at the moment there’s no clear, reproducible cause we can point to.
