MacOS 10.15

Is there a workaround to get Blokada to work on MacOS 10.15 Catalina?

  1. Where did you download Blokada from? → Blokada.org

  2. Which device do you use? Do you use a custom ROM? Do you know which OS version you are using? → MacOS 10.15.7

  3. Please explain the issue as detailed as possible. Also include patterns you observed (like ‘it only happens on wifi’). The more information the better.

I think I need an IP adress for the dns to get it running on MacOS 10. Just installing the profile doesn’t work.

  1. Since when are you facing this issue? → Science trying to get it running

  2. Did you already try to solve the issue somehow? If so: please state what you did.
Nope. Searched the forum but just found a guy, that wasn’t able to make it work on MacOS 10.15 - like me

Hello,

Blokada Cloud with the Apple profile downloaded from app.blokada.org uses DNS over HTTPS.
I believe this is only supported from MacOS 11 and newer.

It’s not possible to simply set an IP in your network settings because Blokada only supports encrypted DNS.

I’d highly recommend you to upgrade your mac since Catalina has reached end of life and might not receive security updates anymore.

If you’re not able to upgrade your mac, there might be 3rd party apps for enabling DoH/DoT on older MacOS versions.
Another solution might be to use Blokada Plus together with WireGuard which will not require DoH support as long as you have the VPN connected.
