I’m using Blokada on a Huawei P Smart Android phone: blokada/4.15.0 (android-28 full official arm64-v8a HUAWEI-HWFIG-H touch api compatible). It says app installed from Package installer and doesn’t show in my Google Play Store so presumably I’ve download via F-Droid or somewhere similar. The app shows as being up to date.
I stopped using Blokada several months ago because several other apps were being affected. My Gmail app stopped syncing/updating so I wasn’t getting new emails without manual refreshing. No notifications. Likewise with Viber and WhatsApp and new messages.
I’ve set up all three apps to be bypassed but they still don’t update as they should.
I’d really like to get using Blokada again as I’m fed up seeing ads. Any suggestions?
Hi,
I think it’s worth starting by installing a newer version of the app, because version 4 is definitely not the newest.
You can choose to use version 5, which is no longer actively developed, but is still free and used by many users. You can download it directly from here: Blokada 5
The latest and in my opinion the best version of the application is version 6, actively developed, available for download from Google Play. The downside is that you need to have an active subscription to use it, but you can start a free trial period to help you decide if it’s the right fit for you: Blokada 6
Regardless of which version you choose, remember to firstly uninstall version 4.
Thank you for your reply Tomash. I’ve now installed version 5 and that has successfully solved the issues I mentioned above, when the noted apps are set to bypass.
However there are now a couple of other problems:
Start-up: despite being set to activate on start-up, it doesn’t come on, and I have to switch on Blokada manually.
Wi-Fi: usually when I leave home the phone will automatically connect to Wi-Fi on my return. That doesn’t happen with Blokada switched on and I have to tap a notification to authorise and it then connects. This happens on other Wi-Fi networks too, which the phone normally recognises and usually connects automatically.
