Double billing accounts

I recently purchased Blokada for Android. Good for 5, I have it on three. When I got my credit card statement I noticed that you billed me on two consecutive days for 2 slightly different amounts just over $30.00US. I wrote my credit card fraud department and they sent me a nice email to the effect that they had removed one of the charges but that I should let you know personally that I did not choose to renew so don’t bill me again.

I note this as you auto renewed me on an IOS Ipad which I had gotten rid off long before you billed me. It was on a different credit card and tooK a few months to get the Apple Store to credit the account. Of course the credit card issuer tacked on late fees and penalties. Your neglect has cost me about $80.00 thus far. STOP BILLING ME PERIOD.

Hi, sorry for the inconvenience. If you’d like, please email us at hello@blokada.org with the email address associated with your Android payments. I’ll be able to check if you have multiple subscriptions activated simultaneously.

You can also cancel an Apple subscription without a device by going to account.apple.com and signing in with your Apple ID, then finding the “Subscriptions” section to manage and cancel any ongoing service.

I can tell you now that this happens with great frequency, and it may not entirely be Blokada’s fault.

Depending on the payment processor, and currency of funds, the first transaction is to guarantee the funds while the second is for the amount adjusted for “true cost,” meaning after interac fees and/or exchange fees.

Uber/UberEATS does this, PayPal does this, and most smaller payment processors do this. What is even more insidious is the fact that they will blame your bank for not “immediately returning” the first transaction, and it will be tied up for 3 to 7 business day.

I report this to my banks all the time, as I should not have to leave my funds tied up due to another party’s greed. You’re better off putting the amount on a prepaid card, using it, and being done with it.
